A Crown main anchor project for the Christchurch City Recovery Plan, this $300 million facility is the largest aquatic, indoor recreation and leisure venue of its kind in New Zealand. Managed by Crown rebuild company Ōtākaro Limited, the massive 30,000 sq mt recreation centre is set to open to the public in 2022.
In 2017 the Crown awarded the building contract to Australian company CPB Contractors. Foundational construction works and commissioning of services began.
Christchurch's Metro Sports Facility will feature:
Project HVAC supplied air treatment solutions to ensure reliable ventilation, heating and cooling of indoor spaces. Hospital-grade ventilation to keep busy pool areas and gymnasiums supplied with fresh air and extract particulates while also providing a constant optimal indoor temperature.
The AHU’s were designed by Project HVAC engineers and custom-built in Italy to fit the available plant room space.
Some were installed as rooftop units to save further footprint space. A solution with the capacity to provide fresh air supply and stale air extraction throughout the facility.
The manufacturing and delivery of the custom-built AHU’s went successfully. All the 42 AHU’s are now being installed and will be working reliably in swimming pool spaces and shared sports courts throughout the one of a kind sports facility. Heating and cooling, ventilation and humidity control as well as indoor air filtering will be ensured efficiently and consistently.
