A major redevelopment project for Christchurch department store Ballantynes was underway. Adding a five-level, 2,600m² building to replace space they lost in the Canterbury earthquakes.
The multimillion-dollar expansion was headed by Naylor Love in partnership with AECOM New Zealand Ltd (PQS/Project Management), Peddlethorp (Architect/Designer), Ruamoko Solutions (Engineer).
Completed in 2020 the redevelopment features two levels of premium retail space, one floor of office space, meeting rooms, staff amenities, stock processing space and delivery dock. Also, covered car parking and open-air car parking on the roof.
Project HVAC was chosen as a supplier of the central 4-pipe multifunctional chiller heat pumps and central heat recovery AHUs for this redevelopment. Required to provide central heating, cooling, heat recovery ventilation and air conditioning plants.
Each of high energy-efficient, lightweight and able to fit in a plant room of very limited space.
They supplied and commissioned:
This results in a dramatic reduction in heating costs for the building and in turn, reduced CO2 emissions.
Heat recovery efficiency of the supplied AHUs is more than 80% thus ensuring that the large part of the energy required for heating of the building fresh air is recovered from the waste heat.
Project HVAC’s range of Clivet air-source chiller heat pumps and Clima HVAC AHU units are designed to a high standard and backed by the support of a highly trained technical team.
The multifunctional 4 pipe chiller and heat recovery ventilation plants have been running without a single failure since their installation.
Project HVAC’s technical expertise is key to the seamless plant operation. Knowing its products and their manufacturers, Project HVAC offers optimal solutions across a broad range of applications.
The J Ballantyne & Co redevelopment was awarded the Retail category gold award at the NZ Commercial Project Awards 2021.
